The Submarines in these DVD movies show how life was in a dark, cold, undersea world.  Submarines started with hand cranked, screw powered, submarines of the Civil War to today's super nuclear powered submarines capable of running for five years or more with the only limitation of how much food that they can carry.   US Submarines, Soviet Russian Submarines, German U-Boats and Japanese Submarine warfare has evolved in World War II using gasoline, diesel and battery power to the nuclear sub that can travel, underwater, at speeds in excess of forty five miles.  In World War II the Japanese submarines were carrying aircraft as well as the well known torpedo.  Now the guided ICBM multiple reentry vehicle MRV missiles can carry many nuclear warheads.  The submarine is the ultimate stealth weapon with a power that is unmatched by any other military weapon system.  Look at these New DVD Releases Movies and you will see exactly the evolution of the modern submarine.

K-19 The Widowmaker DVD Movei

K-19: The Widowmaker DVD Movie (2002)
DVD Movie

Based on an incident that was officially suppressed for 28 years, K-19: The Widowmaker is a fine addition to the "sub-genre" of submarine thrillers. The first major American film about Russian cold war heroes, it re-creates the nightmare endured in 1961 by the crew of the Soviet nuclear submarine K-19, when an exposed reactor core nearly resulted in a nuclear catastrophe. Several crewmen died, and K-19's captain (played by Harrison Ford) had to assert his command when near-mutiny favored his executive officer (Liam Neeson). This escalating tension gives the film its potent dramatic thrust, and both Ford and Neeson deliver intense performances while director Kathryn Bigelow (Near Dark, Strange Days) ably controls a sub full of seething testosterone. It's not as viscerally thrilling as the classic Das Boot or U-571, and some K-19 survivors protested the inclusion of inauthentic drinking scenes, but the movie benefits from grand-scale production values, seamless computer graphics, and a compelling real-life twist. --Jeff Shannon
ASIN: B00005JLGJ

Inspired by a true story that was kept secret until the fall of communism, K-19: THE WIDOWMAKER is a tale of ordinary men who sacrifice everything for their shipmates and their country. In 1961, at the height of the Cold War, an ill-prepared Russian nuclear missile submarine embarks on its maiden voyage with near-disastrous consequences. When the sub's nuclear reactor malfunctions, Captain Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford) makes some decisions that are unpopular with the crew. Tensions mount as radiation levels rise throughout the submarine and there is no respite in sight. If the sub explodes, it may cause an international incident as it may be mistaken as an attack on a nearby NATO base and an American Navy destroyer that is in the area. If the sub dives deep below the surface, perhaps the malfunction can be fixed, but the loss of some lives is then inevitable. The Executive Officer, Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson), who formerly commanded the sub, can placate the crew, but must decide where his own loyalties lie. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow (BLUE STEEL, POINT BREAK), this thriller examines the Cold War from the Russian perspective, an uncommon point of view in American films.

The Hunt for Red October

The Hunt for Red October
DVD Movie, Super Excellent
In this tense 1990 thriller based on a Tom Clancy novel, Alec Baldwin stars as CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who must figure out the true motives of a Russian submarine captain (Sean Connery) directing the Soviet Union's newest nuclear-powered ballistic missile sub - the Red October, a Typhoon-class sub equipped with a revolutionary silent propulsion system - toward the U.S. coast. This Special Collector's Edition includes a "making of" featurette, director's commentary, and more. Widescreen, Dolby Digital, Rated PG. 2 hrs. 15 min.

In the tradition of DIE HARD and PREDATOR, director John McTiernan presents audiences with yet another techno thriller: THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. Sean Connery plays Captain Marko Ramius, a dissatisfied Russian commander who navigates his submarine towards America in an attempt to defect. Soviet intelligence claims that Ramius is a warmonger and that he plans to launch nuclear missiles at the United States. Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin), an iconoclastic CIA agent, believes otherwise: American spies have determined that the submarine is powered by a stealth engine. In order to save the "caterpillar drive" and avoid a nuclear incident, Agent Ryan must board the Red October and assist Captain Ramius in its navigation to U.S. waters. Both murky and captivating, the underwater visual and sound effects are reminiscent of DAS BOOT. Once again director McTiernan produces a winning film with a jagged plot, a well acted script, and plenty of explosions.

U-Boats in WW2

1943-1945
This final episode details the end of the Atlantic naval war, examining German one-man Biber subs, the downfall of U-boat mastermind Karl Doenitz, and more.

This documentary details the end of the Atlantic naval war, which signaled Hitler's defeat and the close of WWII. The deadly U-boat submarines had ceased to present such a deadly nemesis for the British fleet, though the production of the one-man Biber subs by the German Army could have presented a serious threat if the war had continued. These vicious little subs are examined, and the downfall of U-boat mastermind Karl Doenitz is chronicled. Doenitz succeeded Hitler as the titular head of Germany, serving for two weeks before his arrest for war crimes, representing the war's finality in 1945.

U-Boats in WW2
This, the definitive series on Hitler's deadly submarines in World War II, traces the escalation of the U-boat war, with striking German archival images that are both fascinating and horrific. B&W, 1 hour.
1942-1943
Covering the most intense period of the U-boat campaign, this episode features German wolf packs wreaking havoc on Allied convoys.

The first six months of 1942 saw the war assume a truly global dimension with the entry of the United States into the conflict. For the U-boat arm, the heavy coastal traffic off the eastern seaboard of the U.S. provided such a fertile hunting ground that the high number of vessels sunk led this period to be christened by the submarine crews as the 'second happy time'. The belated introduction of convoy tactics by the US Navy saw U-boat victories off the U.S. coast sink to a low of just three in July 1942. Fuehrer der U-boote Doenitz now set out to exploit the gap in the mid-Atlantic where convoys were beyond the range and protection of allied aircraft. By 1943 the Wolf Packs were inflicting heavy losses on the convoys - the high point of the U-boat campaign in World War II. New footage helps us understand the on-going battle between hunter and hunted above and beneath the cold, grey waters of the North Atlantic - the most decisive theatre of World War II.

List of Submarine Videos.

Submarine X-1
James Caan
Originally released in the late 1960s, SUBMARINE X-1 stars James Caan as Commander Richard Bolton, who heads up a top secret undersea mission during World War II. Bolton failed spectacularly in a previous submarine battle, losing control of his craft in a perilous fight with the Nazi's, and ultimately becoming discredited among his fellow soldiers as the submarine sank to the murky depths of the ocean floor. A subsequent clearing of his name by the military leads him to take charge of a training program for a brand new type of submersible craft, and Bolton soon heads out into a dangerous new mission. With revenge on his mind, Bolton must draw on all his experience to overcome the same foes who originally tarnished his reputation.

Run Silent, Run Deep
Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster
"Run silent, run deep" is a term that accurately describes the mission of the submarine in this tense World War II drama. Commander Richardson (Clark Gable) is the only survivor when his sub is hit by a notorious Japanese destroyer dubbed Bongo Pete in the Bongo Straits of Japan. Back at Pearl Harbor, Richardson obsessively plays out strategies that would have saved his crew. When he is reassigned a new ship in the Pacific, he must face old demons as well as the sub's younger executive officer who was slated for captain, Lt. Bledsoe (Burt Lancaster). Bledsoe has the support of his crew and locks horns easily with Richardson, but when the captain disobeys navy orders to stay clear of the Bongo Straits, taking the crew right in to go after Bongo Pete, there is very nearly a mutiny. RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP is marked by strong performances, particularly by Gable, and a taut script. The scenes of the rigorous sub drills the captain puts his crew through are intensive and exceptional.

USS SEAVIPER U-Boat Submarine USN WW2 War Movie
The German U-Boat, U-234, from the Port of Kiel is trading cargo with the Japanese. USS Seaviper must locate and stop this dangerous exchange. The Captain of USS Seaviper must go ashore to conduct reconnaissance on an island near Sumatra, but the ship is left in the hands of Mister Cutter, after the Executive Officer is injured in battle. A conflict between Cutter and the Chief of the Boat puts the submarine in jeopardy. Seaviper is trapped below the surface, with decreasing oxygen, and a Japanese destroyer hunting them from above. Damage to the boat also leave her survival in question. They must fight the Japanese destroyer and get the information about U-235 back to Pearl Harbor.

Submarine 707R: The Movie
SUBMARINE 707R captures the adventures of the Peace Keeping Navy (PKN) a diverse, all-ages group of representatives of the world's nations. The PKN travels the ocean by submarine seeking out underwater villains and foiling their dastardly plans. A terrorist group, lead by the power-hungry Admiral Red, attacks the PKN in an effort to carry out a plot for world domination. Lifelike, three-dimensional submarines and dark underwater imagery offer a pleasing contrast to typically cheery animated characters.

CREST OF THE WAVE~USN / British Navy SUBMARINE/TOP SECRET Torpedo RARE War Movie
A top secret naval base is located on an island near the coast of Scotland. There, a small group of British naval officers and their staff are joined by an American scientist and his assistants to devise a new kid of torpedo. If successful, this torpedo has the potential to guarantee Anglo-American naval superiority. But testing the newly created weapon turns out to be more dangerous than expected. As tests fail, the growing crisis escalates tensions between British and Americans on the island. With the British navy becoming more skeptical that the torpedo will ever work, the project is in danger of being called off. The American staff struggles to perfect the new weapon before it's too late. Will they succeed?

New Blue Submarine No.6
This special BLUE SUBMARINE feature combines all four episodes of the series. It takes place in the future, after the oceans have flooded much of the earth and divided its population into sea dwellers and earth dwellers who fight constantly. Going unnoticed amidst this fighting is a plot by the evil Zorndyke to s***** control of the Earth from its bickering inhabitants. Humanity's only hope is the state of the art Blue Submarine No. 6, which is unfortunately piloted by a male-female duo that don't quite get along. BLUE SUBMARINE's involving storyline and unique combination of computer animation with traditional cell animation helped make it one of the most compelling animes in recent memory.

Silent Victory: Submarine Warfare in WWII
The two programs in this documentary set travel back to the first half of the 1940s, for a re-examination of the military events that immediately followed the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Historically speaking, U.S. naval fliers and aircraft carriers received the most credit for pioneer ing the Allied Victory in the Pacific, at battles such as Leyte Gulf, Santa Cruz and Midway. But the documentaries in this set suggest that the Allied vessels of the Pacific Fleet Submarine force were the true heroes that succeeded at isolating Japan - by destroying its merchant fleet, handicapping its industrial base and making reinforcement and re-supply next to impossible. The first program in the set, SILENT VICTOY, provides a systematic overview of the submarine war from Pearl Harbor through Japan's surrender, while the second, DEVIL BOAT, follows the journey of a group of Oregon PT boat vets as they attempt to resurrect and restore a vintage PT 658 to its original condition.

SUBMARINE WARFARE

The Atomic Submarine
An atomic sub is dispatched to the Arctic North to search out and destroy an alien spacecraft which has been attacking the American fleet.

Submarine-D-1 Film Movie
This DVD is about a very rare film called Submarine D-1. Lots of great footage of old "S" boats and what the fleet called the 1st "Fleet Boat" because they were fast enough to keep up with the fleet. We were pleased that this print was in such great shape. The story spins around the idea that: "if a submarine sinks in shallow water, is there any way the the crew can be saved?"... Filmed in 1937, the story is very eerie because although the USS Squalus was a marvelous ship, it tragically sank in 1939 (2 years later). Because of this, we recorded footage of the USS Squalus to go with these classic films. We hope that you'll thoroughly enjoy the collection! We certainly did... A great piece of submarine history!

SUBMARINE Lost Civil War Sub USS Alligator USS Virginia Nuclear Subs US Navy DVD

The situation escalates between two superpowers in neutral Sweden, and an investigator (Dennis Hopper) is hired to find the laser and the culprit. Based on an actual terrifying event.

BEATLES, THE - YELLOW SUBMARINE
In this animated feature with the Fab Four, the magical Pepperland is invaded by the Blue Meanies, who have declared war on all that is good--especially music. At the request of a befuddled emissary from Pepperland, the lads from Liverpool take a ride in their yellow submarine to aid the besieged residents in their battle.Peter Max designed the distinctive look of the animation, and the real-live Beatles themselves appear in a brief sequence at the film's end. Includes the songs "Yellow Submarine," "Just A Northern Song," "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," "Nowhere Man," "A Day in the Life," and others, as well as several orchestral numbers by noted Beatle producer George Martin.
