F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet Airplane 1/72 Scale Diecast Metal Airplane Models, Wooden Airplane Models and Plastic Model Airplane Kits.

Originally the F-4 Phantom didn't have any guns.  It was thought that with the high speeds and the advanced missile technology that the phantom didn't need guns.  The pilots had all kinds of complaints, guns were necessary, so the phantom was finally fitted with a Gatling (20 mm) cannon.  The phantom became one of the worlds most famous fighter jets ever and changed the world of military aviation  -- The F4 Phantom II was built by McDonnell Douglas.  It was a large airplane for being a jet fighter with a length of 62' 10" and a wingspan of  38' 5".  The airplane weighed 28,276 lbs. empty and had a max weight of 58,000 lbs..  The F4 had two General Electric J79 engines with 17,000 lbs. each while using afterburners, with a combined total thrust of 34,000 lbs..  The jet had a max speed of 1459 mph, a cruise speed of 587 mph and a max range of 1370 miles.    There are many versions of this plane, these specs cover only one version.

The F-4 Phantom is one of the most successful jet fighters ever made.

First made in the early part of the Viet Nam War, the phantom is still flying in the United States Air Force as well as many other countries military air forces.  One of the interesting jobs where the F4 phantom used is the function as the Wild Weasel.  For this job the phantom intentionally fly's into suspected surface to air missile areas attempting to draw fire from the enemy missile batteries.   Are these pilots crazy, probably, but this allows the Wild Weasel to fire its weapons (HARM Missiles) at the ground radar site.  This method has been very successful and has been widely used from the Viet Nam era to the Gulf War.  I'm not sure, but one reason that the phantom may be so successful at this job may be because of the it's construction provided very little stealth characteristics.   The HARM Missile System (High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile) detects the enemy's radar energy using the HTS (Harm Targeting System) antennas and processes the radar information in an onboard computer which determines bearing and range to the radar source.  The HTS system also determines what type of SAM (Surface to Air Missile) site the target is (SA-3, SA-4, etc.)  The HTS system also works with the other passive ECM (Electronics Counter Measures) systems on the Phantom.  U.S. Marines F-4 painted in VMFA-321's - the Hell's Angels' These F-4 Phantom models come in wooden airplane models, diecast airplane models, plastic airplane model kits and mahogany aircraft models.  Models are the ultimate educational toy.  Building model airplane kits gives both adults and kids a big boost in their lives.
