These are pictures from a real Geographic North Pole Expedition.
This Expedition went through Moscow, Norilsk, Khatanga, Sredney Island, Borneo Base
And then to the true Geographic North Pole.

This was the last true expedition to the Geographic North Pole.
In a true expedition, you must carry all of your own equipment and
you truly don't know if you are going to make it there or not.

On modern expeditions, you just take a small bag with you
and the rest is taken care of when you get there.  You now have
heated tents already set up, a restroom, a kitchen and cafeteria.
In other words you've got it made.

By looking at the above pictures, you will see that we had to load
everything from Moscow, three thousand miles to the North East
to Khatanga where we waited for available flights to the north pole.

We spent a lot of time stuck in the storms.  You can see three pictures
of an arctic storm above, all snapped only a few minutes and then
seconds apart.  If you want to go to the North Pole it's best to do it
on an ice breaker such as the Yamal.

Global warming has taken its toll on the ice on the North Pole.
In 2002 it was very solid and very safe.  By only 2005 the
entire North Pole was broken up with leads (Cracks in the ice) everywhere
and extending for hundreds of miles.  Except, now that the ice
thins, it breaks up into smaller and smaller pieces making it
much more difficult to build a suitable runway.

So there is a limit to the days that you will be able to
go to the Geographic North Pole.
