Richard Donovan - Ireland

Richard is a resident of Galway, a town of some 70,000 people
situated on the west coast of Ireland.  Richard became the first member of

the North Pole Grand Slam Club on December 14th. He achieved
this distinction in one year having run a distance of a marathon or
longer on all seven continents and at the North Pole in 2002.

Among his outright successes last year, Richard won the first ever
South Pole Marathon (Antarctica), the Inca Trail Marathon (South

America), and the Everest Challenge Marathon and Himalayan
100-Mile Stage Race (Asia). In a solo run on April 5th, he also
became the first person in history to run a marathon at the North
Pole. Richard is obviously an experienced Polar marathoner, but
his principal goals are now in the ultra running area of the sport
over distances of 100k and 100 miles.
