A-7 on the USS Kitty Hawk

There is no way that a 40,000 pound airplane is going to stop on the distance of this flight deck, so to get these planes to stop they need an arresting wire.   Navy planes have an arresting hook attached to the underside of the airframe.  When in a landing configuration, the hook is lowered and when the plane touchs the deck, the hook catches the wire and stops it.  This picture is something that I have never seen before.  The plane is landing and smoke is rolling off of all of the tires.  It appears that Gordon has his brakes locked as he touched the deck.
