The Luftwaffe decided to use the Alpha Jet in their Military light strike role. The first production German Military Alpha Jet performed its first flight on 12 April 1978. It was designated the Alpha Jet A (the "A" standing for Appui Tactique or "Tactical Strike") or Alpha Jet Close Support variant. The Luftwaffe obtained 175 airplanes up to 1983, The first major foreign military customers were Belgium and Egypt, each performing final assembly of French-configuration Alpha Jet E jet figthters. Belgium ordered 33 aircraft under the designation of Alpha Jet 1B, with assembly by SABCA of Belgium and deliveries in 1978-1980.  Egypt ordered 30 military aircraft designated Alpha Jet MS1 in the early 1980s. Four complete jet fighter aircraft were supplied by Dassault, with the other 26 assembled in Egypt from knockdown kits by AOI.   Click Here to see the Alpha Jet Exhibit in the YellowAirplane Online Museum.

20 years of Alpha Jet
in the Belgian Air Force

Softbound Book

Marc Arys' book on the Dassault / Dornier advanced trining/light attack military jet, the Alpha Jet, first flown 1973, is well on its way to become a best seller.

A joint venture by France and Germany, A-Jets have of course been ordered by the joint venture partners as well as ten other countries, including Belgium. So this is what the book is all about ; A-Jets in the service of the Belgian Air Force for two decades now, hence the title "20 years of Alpha Jet in the Belgian Air Force".

Here to write to Marc Arys.

The Alpha Jet is an agile and very maneuverable subsonic aircraft which is used both as a trainer and in the fighter-bomber role. The French aerobatics team Patrouille de France has used the Alpha Jet for international demonstrations since 1981.  Primarily used as a two-seat advanced jet trainer capable of light strike and reconnaissance, the Alpha Jet was developed by and produced for France and Germany in the 1970s. 500 Alpha Jets were eventually produced in total for France, Germany, Belgium.   Primarily used as a two-seat advanced jet trainer capable of light strike and reconnaissance, the Alpha Jet was developed by and produced for France and Germany in the 1970s. 500 Alpha Jets were eventually produced in total for France, Germany, Belgium and various African nations. The aircraft reached a maximum speed of 576 mph and could hold up to 5,511 pounds of armament. There were four versions of the Alpha Jet, all of which featured one 30 mm DEFA

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: The Dassault Rafale (English: ) is a French twin-engined delta-wing agile multi-role 4.5th-generation jet fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation. Introduced in 2000, the Rafale is being produced both for land-based use with the French Air Force and for carrier-based operations with the French Navy. It has also been marketed for export to several countries but has not yet received orders. The logo of the Dassault Rafale program. In the mid-1970s, both the French Air Force (Arme de l'Air) and Navy (Aronavale) had a requirement (the Navy's being rather more pressing) to find a new generation of fighter (principally to replace AdlA SEPECAT Jaguars and Aronavale F-8 Crusaders), and their requirements were similar enough to be merged into one project. In 1983, France awarded Dassault a contract for two Avion de Combat eXprimental (ACX) demonstrators. European nations, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom agreed to jointly develop a new fighter in the early 1980s. However, disagreement over the fighter's size and project leadership led France and the other nations to split in 1985. France developed the smaller Rafale, while the other nations developed what would later be named the Eurofighter Typhoon. Prototype Dassault Rafale AThe Rafale A technology demonstrator was rolled out in late 1985 and made its maiden flight on 4 July 1986.
