Gene Thompson and Deane, upgrading the WACO engine to a 450
| This is how Dean and his wife Roberta (Bobbie) met. After talking to Bobbie I found out an interesting love story where their lives became one by fate. Bobbie worked as an insurance agent. One day she seen an introductory offer in the newspaper where you can take a lesson in an airplane for only five dollars. She just couldn't pass up a chance like that so she went to the airport and took her first ride in a Piper Cub. After the flight, the pilot, of course, tried to sell her on flying lessons. She remarked that as an insurance agent she couldn't possibly afford the cost. After some time listening to the pilots sales pitch Bobbie came up with an incredible deal. She was also a bookkeeper, something that the airport needed, so her deal was to trade some bookkeeping work for airplane lessons and that's exactly what she did. |
