History Undercover - DVD
![]()
When a Japanese submarine sank the
USS Indianapolis on July 30, 1945, 900 survivors were left
to float for days in shark-infested waters. By the time they
were finally rescued, only 316 remained. The Navy's response
to this tragedy was to court martial Capt. Charles B. McVay
III, a move that reeked of scapegoating and outraged
survivors and the public. This video shows how McVay's name
was finally cleared more than 50 years later, thanks in part
to Hunter Scott, a 12-year-old 7th grader who researched the
sinking of the ship for a school project.
