The Navy Sparrowhawks were deployed in the Airships U.S.S. Akron and Macon, making them flying aircraft carriers.

The U.S. Navy's miniscule Sparrowhawks operated from dirigibles during the 1930s,  and were among the most colorful fighters of the era. Utilized primarily in conjunction with the U.S.S. Akron and U.S.S. Macon airships, the Sparrowhawks also operated briefly from the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington.
