Click Here's a close-up photo of the Dolgan Indian Ceremonial Boots.  These boots did not have any soles, as they are shown here.  The boot maker bought the boot uppers from Dolgan villages in other cities.  After a customer would buy the boots, he would custom fit the boots and make a sole for the customer.  I'm very sorry that I didn't buy the boots for myself, they would have been a fantastic addition to my collection of handcrafted items from foreign countries.

The man was a very nice man and I really appreciate how nice he was to me and how nice all of the people of Khatanga treated me.  This was a wonderful experience and a great place to visit.  If every part of the expedition had gone as planned, I would have missed out on many parts of the experience.  Luckily there were storms and other delays that left us stranded in remote cities of Russia and on the islands of Severnaya Zemlya north of Siberia in the Arctic Ocean.

I am still in contact with the people of Siberia and have made many life long friends from that city.  Now, at this writing, six years later, the lady at the store called me just two weeks ago.  I'm a very lucky man.  C. Jeff Dyrek, Webmaster.
