Look at the size of these woolly mammoth tusk.  These tusk are found throughout Northern Siberia and are sought after by prospectors, mostly the Dolgan people who live in this area.  Just one tusk is worth thousands of dollars.  A mammoth skull or an entire mammoth is worth a tremendous amount of money, much more money than a Dolgan family can make in a year or maybe even a lifetime. 

These tusk are beautifully mounted and displayed in blocks of ice at their base.  How these were actually used in research, I cannot say, but there is no doubt that they were closely inspected and compared to learn more about the mammoth.  The man in the photo is the webmaster.
