Dear Sir :
Let me first of all introduce my self , I am Randy Young and I served
aboard the U.S.S. Sample FF-1048 from 1976 to 1979 . and the
picture of the 5"38 single mt 51 is correct it is a vintage 1938 5"
gun and the main armament of the Sample she also has a un like the
brooks FFG-1 same hull as sample which ahs a missile launcher the
sample has a mount 52 witch is a vintage 5"38 single mt..
The picture of the gun mount was taken from the Carrier U.S.S. Kitty
hawk while unreping (refueling )
if there is any thing more you would like to know about the Sample
just ask ... would like to hear from you ...

This is a 5" gun on a destroyer.If anyone can tell me more about this gun or any of the equipment that you see in this photo, send me e-mailHaving served on the USS Nicholas (DD-449),
it would appear to be the 51 mount on the bow of a Fletcher (DD-445)class
destroyer.
