The North Pole base camp is a great place to meet new friends from around the world. This photo was taken in 1999 to show an example of the tents at time.The temperature on the north pole, in April, is only minus -1 degree to -10 degrees with the sun being up about 18 degrees above the horizon. On June 21st, the summer solstice, the sun on the north pole is 23 1/2 degrees above the horizon and instead of coming up in the east and setting in the west, it goes round and round and never sets. The ice is about 2 meters thick and moves between two and sixteen kilometers each day, so if you bring your GPS you can track your true position. Remember, you are on top of a frozen arctic ocean standing on the north pole. Expeditions like this are rare, it is a true adventure to sit on the top of the world, on top of the frozen ice pack floating on top of the Arctic Ocean.. When your are here, you are standing on the cleanest place on earth enjoying a fantastic view that only a handful of people have ever experienced before.
