This is the wing tip of the plane in Chicago again.  

You can see that the Leading edge fairing is attached with brads. He is using fiberglass but it appears that the glass is slightly unsaturated.  On the symmetrical wing Pitts, S1-S, the fairing should be interchangeable between the right and left wings, however, on the S1-C (Non Symmetrical) model, the wings do not allow the interchangeability requiring you to make two molds.
