Luftwaffe at War Series Vol. 12

1940-1944. Griehl. This photo-essay, one of a 21-volume series, covers every aspect of the Luftwaffe in World War II, examining the men and the aircraft they flew as it charts the rise and fall of this mighty force. This softbound, 72 pg. volume contains 108 B&W photos along with 8 pages of color and measures 7"x 10".
As Hitler's troops celebrated the conquest of France, the Germans prepared to unleash the largest and most aggressive bomber force in the world on their hapless British enemy. Directing the bulk of their forces against RAF bases in the south of England, the Luftwaffe began a punishing series of daylight raids. In addition Luftwaffe bombers flew against ports and key installations across Britain. By September 1940 and through the end of that year, the emphasis had switched to attacking London and the Luftwaffe bombers were flying by day or by night against British cities.
This book presents rare photographs of the German bombers and their crews. Covering such mainstays of the German arsenal as the He 111s, JU 87Bs, Ju 88A-1s, Do 17Zs, and even Do 217s and He 177A-3s, this is a unique and valuable guide to Germany's bomber force.

The Stuka, although destined primarily for ground support in Hitler's major campaigns of conquest, also saw action over the Mediterranean, Italy, the Balkans and North Africa. Indeed, the Ju 87 had first seen action in southern Europe, flying in support of Franco's forces in the Spanish Civil War. The impact of this dive-bomber was as great here as in Russia and France and, whether bombing Malta or destroying Allied convoys, the Stuka earned a fearsome reputation.
This volume presents rare photographs of German and Italian Ju 87s and examines their role in diverse campaigns such as the attack on Yugoslavia, the conquest of Greece, the battle for Crete, the air war in support of the Afrika Korps, the blitz on Malta, anti-shipping operations, the defense of Italy and operations by the night flying squadrons.

This volume depicts the Germans' use of aircraft in Finland and Norway to maintain their campaign against the Soviet Union. The Fins were active allies of the Germans in their war against the Soviets and allowed the Luftwaffe considerable freedom in its operations over Russia. Although conditions in the north were harsh, the Luftwaffe quickly adapted to the region and carried out a series of key operations over Russia between 1941 and 1944.
Click Here, you'll see the men and the aircraft used in this campaign, mostly from Luftflotte 1 and Luftflotte 5. Their fighter units flew Messerschmitt Bf 109s and Focke Wulf Fw 190s and the bomber units were equipped with Junkers Ju 87 dive bombers and Heinkel He 111s. Close-range reconnaissance units flew Henschel Hs 126s, Messerschmitt Bf 109s and Focke Wulf Fw 189s, while the long-range units had Junkers Ju 88s and 188s, Messerschmitt Bf 109s, and Dornier Do 215s. In addition, coastal patrol units and transport units were also involved in this critical part of World War II.

Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
Griehl. First flown in 1935, the Ju 87 was one of the finest planes flown in the Spanish Civil War. Later modified for the invasion of Poland, this aircraft played a major role, proving most effective as an accurate and destructive dive-bomber. This book details the Stuka's development from birth through to its final demise covering each model and variant. Many wartime photos are included as well as original drawings and plans. 315 pgs., 260+ B&W photos plus 8 pg. color section, 8"x 11", hdbd.

Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
Smith. The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka was the airplane that struck terror into the heart of anyone unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of its attacks. Dive-bombing historian Peter Smith tells the full story of the Ju 87, its design, development and operational use, and suggests that although misused and badly directed in the Battle of Britain, the Stuka caused considerable damage to the British convoys and airfields. 192 pgs., 250 B&W illustrations, 8½"x 11", hdbd.

Luftwaffe at War Series Vol. 9
The Blitzkrieg in the East, 1941-1945. Smith. This photo-essay, one of a 21-volume series, covers every aspect of the Luftwaffe in World War II, examining the men and the aircraft they flew as it charts the rise and fall of this mighty force. This softbound, 72 pg. volume contains 102 B&W photos along with 8 pages of color and measures 7"x 10".
The Stukas blazed a trail of destruction across the Russian steppe as a crucial element of Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's ambitious gamble to defeat and conquer the Soviet Union. Acting as flying artillery to the armies of the Third Reich from the opening shots to the final destruction of the Reich itself, the Stukas flew in support of the ground forces above the clash of two colossal empires. This volume captures the many roles adopted by the Ju 87 in this demanding theater - from dive-bomber to tank-buster - and the varieties of plane type. With rare and unusual photographs, this book illustrates the Stuka's courageous contribution, in both attack and defense, to Germany's ill-fated war in the east.
