Here's a dog picture standing next to his house in the kennel. As you can see the dog houses are off the ground with a small opening in their house. This is to keep the temperature inside as warm as possible. The dog house is kept off of the ground to keep the heat from wicking into the ground, and possibly, to keep snow from building up under and around the house. When I first approached the dogs, they looked like they may be a little bit mean, but that was not true at all. In fact, they loved to be petted and talked to like any good animal. I'm really not sure how everything worked but it appeared that the dogs were rented to dog sled operators as well as the kennel owner having his own sleds too. There were a number of new houses and, of course, older houses so it looked as if the kennel operator just recently added quite a few new dogs to his kennel.
