There are a small number of lone buildings on Svalbard's interior. This snowmobile tour takes the riders past one of them as seen in the picture above. It's hard to tell who built this building and for what purpose. Along many of the coast of Svalbard there is a usable amount of driftwood that can be used as heating. However, in the interior of the island either wood or coal must have to be brought to these buildings for heat. Without heat, there is no water because all of the fresh water must be obtained from melted snow.
