This Russian Antonov An-74 Aircraft is specifically designed by the Russians for all ice operations in the Arctic and Antarctic.  This is a picture of the An-74 Coaler getting ready to take off from Camp Barneo .

North Pole Travel and Global Warming, What it Means to You

This is a picture of the Antonov An-74 on the all ice runway at Camp Barneo which is about 60 miles from the geographical North Pole.    Note the high engines.  This plane is designed to be a STOL (Short Take - Off and Landing) aircraft with the intent of ice operations such as this.   This is the largest aircraft that I've seen on the North Pole.
