The Ilyushin Candid.  A fantastic Russian Aircraft and a Fantastic Russian Love Story
Ilyushin is pronounced Ruslan in Russian, or Roos-lan.  Roll your tongue on the Ro.  This is one beautiful airplane.  This photo was taken by Curtis Lieber one of the worlds greatest Arctic and Antarctic Explorers alive today.

After speaking to a beautiful Siberian girl, named Yulia, in Khatanga, Siberia, on our 2002 expedition to the North Pole, I learned a little bit about what "Culture" really meant.  There is a great story depicted by the name of this aircraft company, pronounced Roos-lan, (Roll the O's) and is spelled Ilyushin.  The story goes something like this:  Rooslan was a Knight and was to marry a princess named Lyudmila.  On their wedding night there was a large clap of thunder and Lyudmila was gone, kidnapped.   The king next said that whoever finds Lyudmila will receive half of his kingdom.  Today, the Ilyushin company is sending thousands of aircraft all over the world in the name of Rooslan to find his beautiful wife.

If this isn't an example of a deep culture, I don't know what is.   Instead of naming a company after its founder, Ilyushin is named after a great Russian Story character.  Look at this link to see the whole story of Rooslan,  Rooslan and Lyudmila   Another link Ruslan and Ludmila
