| Take a look at the left side of this picture of Sredney Island. You can see the tall pole, now look at the barely visible poles sticking above the snow. These are the mast of the boat mentioned on the previous page. In the background is the Arctic Ocean then some hardly visible islands on the horizon. There is one thing about these islands and that is that, once away from the inhabited places, everything is so clean. The air is FRESH. I had to write this in capitals because everyone talks about how fresh the air is in Hawaii, but, there is no comparison to here. I can't wait until my next visit to Sredney which will be in about two years. This spring we are going to go through Norway and Spitsbergen which is another island group in the Arctic Ocean. |
