Hello,
Amazon.com
For the first 90 minutes of the movie,
Affleck and Beckinsale find a nice, appealing chemistry that plays on his
strengths as a movie star and hers as a serious actress--he
gives her glamour, she gives him smarts. Their truncated romance--the beginning
of which is told in flashback so we can get right to the point where
he has to leave her to go to England--works, thanks to their charm. They're
no Kate and Leo from Titanic (a strategy the film strives hard toward),
but they're pretty darn adorable in their own right. Hartnett, as the not
entirely unwelcome third wheel, squints bravely but makes only a
slight dent in the film. Everyone else in Pearl Harbor--from Cuba Gooding Jr.'s brave navy seaman to Jon Voight's able impersonation of FDR--is
pretty much a glorified walk-on, taking a backseat to the pyrotechnics
and action sequences that keep the three-hour film in fairly constant motion.
But when that action does take hold, Pearl Harbor is quite a thrilling ride. --Mark Englehart

Here's a thank you to Randy
Bednarz for finding the movie starring Lloyd Bridges. The movie was a
Frank Tallman film made in 1973 for TV.
I am trying to track down a movie which
my father told me about. He remembers seeing it a long time ago, but can't
remember the title. He recalls a scene where a damaged P-40 Warhawk and a tank are
dueling. The P40 has a damaged radiator and can only run his motor for
short flights before landing again. The tank keeps trying to shoot him
down but has to try and find him. Customer.
From the Webmaster: I found a source
for this movie from a man in Canada. I bought the film and it was great.
However, the VHS Video that I received was a copy and would be against copyright
laws in the United States so I did not keep the contact information for the man
selling the copies. This movie is really a good film though.

Pearl
Harbor (2001)
To call Pearl Harbor a throwback to old-time
war movies is something of an understatement. Director Michael Bay's epic
take on the bombing that brought the United States into World
War II hijacks every war movie situation and cliché (some affectionate,
some stale) you've ever seen and gives them a shiny, glossy spin
until the whole movie practically gleams. Planes glisten, water sparkles,
trees beckon--and Bay's re-creation of the bombing itself, a 30-minute
sequence that's tightly choreographed and amazingly photographed,
sets the action movie bar up quite a few notches. And in updating the classic
war film, Bay and screenwriter Randall Wallace (Braveheart) use that
old plot standby, the love triangle--this time, it's between two pilots
(Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) and a nurse (Kate Beckinsale) who
find themselves stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, during what
they thought would be a nice, sunny tour of duty. Then, of course,
history intervened.

this director's cut features rare footage and interviews. 1 hr. 30 min.
During the summer of 1941, 300 young American men and women secretly
trained in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Within weeks of the Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor, the daring exploits of the American Volunteer Group
(AVG) captured the imagination of the world. The Chinese called them
Fei Hu, for the shark's teeth painted on their planes. The world knew them
as the legendary Flying Tigers. Through the use of rare film
footage Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers tells the story of a small
group of men and women who fought against overwhelming odds and lifted
the spirits of both the American and Chinese people during the darkest
days of World War Two. Fei Hu - The Story of the Flying Tigers was
broadcast on PBS as a one-hour film on February 22, 1999. It was selected

highlights the best history programming that PBS has to offer. Now the

John Wayne plays the tough commander of Flying Tigers, the famous fighter
squadron that fought to save China from the Japanese. Wayne finds he is fighting
a war on two fronts: he's taking on the enemy with only a handful of
inexperienced men and patched-up planes while keeping a cocky new pilot from
stealing his girl. The story has little in common with real history, and lots of
classic post-Pearl Harbor propaganda fills the script. Regardless, the movie is
all Wayne's, and Wayne fans will enjoy seeing the prototype for what would
become the Duke's trademark portrayal of the military fighting man.
