the Little Rock-ette
located on the island of Ie Shima in WW2. During WWII, The P-47
used the Pratt and Whitney's R-2800 18-cylinder radial, the "Double Wasp,"
was used exclusively for fighters and medium bombers such as the P-47,
the F6F Hellcat, the F4U Corsair, and the B-26 and A-26 twin-engine
mediums. Post-war, its reliability commended its use for long-range
patrol planes and for the DC-6, Martin 404, and Convair transports. |

Loading Ammo on the
Little Rock-ette P-47 Thunderbolt.
This plane carried
Eight 50 cal Machine guns Four in
each wing. These
guns gave the P-47 a major punch
against the frail
Japanese Fighters and against almost
any Ground target.
The P-47 was heavily armored also
making it very difficult
to shoot down. It was Nicknamed
the Jug because it
looked like a flying Jug.
