| This is a picture Liz Nelson, 76 years old, on
this Russian Antonov 26 cargo plane, just before landing on the North Pole
Ice cap. We thought that she had a sprained ankle
but later found out that she went to the pole and did all of this travel
with a broken leg. Liz is from Virginia and is a well
rounded world traveler. This is just another one of her long time
incredible adventures.
In the picture, from left to right, you can see my eye, then in the background, there is a yellow thing. This is a huge internal fuel tank, so large that I couldn't believe that this plane could carry this much weight. Next is Liz Nelson. We are all totally exhausted and we are packed in like a can of sardines. Ok, we were in Khatanga, went to Sredney Island, landed at Camp Barneo and then flew to the pole. But the trip wasn't over, we had to do all of these things again on the way back. It was a fantastic expedition that makes anything at Disney Land look like a grade "B" movie. We did it and we're going back next April, this time through Norway. All I can say is that this expedition was so fantastic that the word, fantastic, cannot describe the feeling that I get deep inside. It has changed my life for the better because I know that anything a man can conceive and believe, he can achieve, even if the man is really a woman at seventy six years old.
