Cross Country Skiers on the North Pole. 

Skiers skiing off into their new horizon, the North Pole.  These skiers work hard for many hours every day.  One skier, Eric Philips, from a previous expedition, showed me his feet.   His toes were solid black.  He told me that it wasn't the cold that made them black, it was the hard work.  On still another expedition, another skier showed me his feet and he only had one toe turn black.  Pulling these heavy sledges for so many hours every day puts a tremendous strain on the toes.
