Here is a picture of the trees near Billy Mitchell in Alaska. The trees really made it a spectacular view. It's amazing how these trees could grow in such a rough and hard ground and environment. It appears that there would be very little nutrition for these trees. But it's not just nutrition from the ground that makes trees grow. The bulk of their weight comes from the carbon that is taken out of the carbon dioxide found in the air. This is why the trees are deforestation are so important to the Earth in the global warming and climate change considerations. The trees absorb the carbon dioxide that we breath out and create most of their bulk from that, then give off oxygen as a byproduct. The trees are also great for the prevention of flash floods and the resultant erosion. In addition, trees hold the ground water and the surface intact reducing land slides and desertification.
