A-7 on the USS Kitty Hawk

This is the A-7 Corsair lI located at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.  There's one thing about the A-7's that you find in museums around the country.  There may be only A-7A's and B's in these museums.  The reason for this is that the A-7E's were mostly sold to foreign countries.  The E model is much more advanced than the A and B models.  the engines were changed from the TF-30 to the TF-41 which gave more power and better fuel control allowing, among other things, the capability for ACLS (Automatic Carrier Landing System) operation to the deck.   A-7's with TF-30 engines could use ACLS systems but were required to used manual control for the final portion of the carrier approach.
